We've been receiving orders for the candy sale! The candy should be in on Monday or Tuesday of next week and will be distributed to those who chose to participate. There will be some extra carriers if any MS or HS student would like to get in on the sale.

~*~January Update!~*~
Greetings Band Boosters!
I hope everyone has had a great start to their new year. As we look to the second half of the 09-10 school year, we’ll have many things going on.
In February, we’ll be holding our annual Gertrude Hawk Candy Bar Fundraiser. This fundraiser is open to Middle and High School Band members (including high school band front). I’ve attached the flyer to this email, and Mr. Eyster and Mr. Snyder will also have copies. You may also find it on the blog within the next few days. Students can receive 10.00 credit to their Student Band Accounts for each box of candy sold!
PLEASE NOTE: On the flyer there are two different due dates for the forms. It's the later date of January 21st, not the 18th. Sorry for the confusion!
On February 8th, at 7:00 p.m., we’ll be holding a band booster meeting in the high school band room. There will only be one other booster meeting after this one, and that will take place in April. The February meeting is very important in that we nominate officers for the 10-11 school year. The nominations are then voted on, and confirmed, at the April meeting. If you have any interest in an officer position, please let me know prior to the meeting, or you may indicate your interest during the meeting. The positions open for next year are as follows:
President
Vice President
Treasurer
Assistant Secretary
If you take on one of these positions, we will not leave you stranded for next year. We will be available to answer any questions and help you along the way!
There are also some committee chair positions that will be open next year. Please let me know if you are interested in any of the following:
High School Banquet Chair (may be co-chaired)
Hospitality Chair (may be co-chaired)
Kid’s Stuff Coupon Book Sale (may be co-chaired)
Please note that all committee chair and officer positions require that you been in good standing with the booster club, and that you are a member of the club. These positions are open to parents/guradians of all levels, not just high school.
On February 28th, the Festival of Winds concert will be held at the Middle School at 3:00 p.m. This is a great concert to see the progression of our band members through the grades.
On a final note: We have a tight budget and are not in any position to carry debt. If you write a check that is returned for non-sufficient funds, you must resolve the situation to include paying the $25.00 returned check fee. The fee is there because our bank charges us when this happens. We certainly understand that things happen and that problems arise, but it is incumbent on you to contact our treasurer immediately and make arrangements for a quick resolution.
Thanks for your support!

High School Holiday Concert!
High School Concert Band Parents!
As in past years, we'd like to serve refreshments to the High School Concert Band after their morning performance on the 23rd. Please consider donating to make it a special event for them - a thank you for all of their hard work!
So far, we've heard from four parents offering donations. We have over 70 students in concert band, so that's only a small fraction. We're in the market for things like cookies, mini-muffins or mini-cupcakes, fruit, etc. We'll provide the punch, hot chocolate and paper goods.
Please contact Allison or Tina if you can donate. Thanks!

Wow!
What a game last night! I hope many of you were there to witness what was probably West York's best game this season! The band was awesome playing constantly through the evening to keep the crowd going!
Looks like we'll be traveling next week - I'm sure Mr. Eyster will have all the details for the kids on Monday or Tuesday. For those planning to go, you might want to pre-buy your tickets at the HS this week.
Last night's band dinner was fabulous! I hearby crown LeAnna Rikas as the Queen of Getting the Best Dinner Donations Ever! The kids dined on Olive Garden Salads and Breadsticks, and LeAnna's pasta that she spent all day slaving over! Thank you, LeAnna! And thank you those who were there to assist - Linda G., Joni, Tabitha, Cheryl, Nick, Hannah, Emma, and most especially to Linda K. for hooking us up with baking facilities!
LeAnna also had all the kids sign a thank you card for Olive Garden. If you dine there and happen to see the manager, please do thank them for the donation. It was great!
I'll post any info about this coming weekend as I recieve it.
Still looking for pictures if anyone has any to share.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Weekly Update!
Hello everyone,
Thanks to everyone who came to the Booster Meeting this evening - we had a great turnout and the meeting was very productive!
Things happening this week:
Wednesday, the 11th - Veterans Day. The concert band will be performing at the Veterans Day Breakfast at the fairgrounds. Please make sure that boys have black shoes, black socks, and a white tuxedo shirt. Girls - no open-toe shoes. Thank you to Linda Kahley for getting all the uniforms ready to go for Wednesday - they look great!
Friday, the 13th (oooh, scary!) - West York vs. Mechanicsburg at home. The booster club will provide dinner for the marching band - walking tacos, soda, water. We will also have candy and Powerade for sale if anyone would like to purchase those items. If you/your child would prefer something different, you may bring something or pack something. Mr. Eyster likes to have the students stay on campus for dinner during playoff games due to heavy traffic and extra people on campus.
I hope everyone comes to the game ready to cheer the team on this week!
A big thank you goes out to Sherri Dennis for her work in organizing Senior Night - not just for band, but for football and the cheerleaders as well. Sherri will be handing over the reins of the Hospitality Committee to Tabitha and Joni who will asking for help for a few upcoming events soon! Be on the lookout for information or for phone calls!
I'll be posting photos of the seniors and their parents within the next couple of days.
Citrus orders are due by Friday! Please be sure to get your paperwork and payment in to your band director on time! Thanks!

Magnets! If you'd like to purchase a car magnet, I'll be at the game on Friday night and will have some. Give me a call or email and let me know how many you'd like.
Marching Band Shirts for Sale! Mr. Eyster has some short sleeve and long sleeve Billy Joel marching band shirts for sale. Most all sizes available. Short sleeve are $5.00 - long sleeve $10.00. Send cash or check made payable to the band boosters with your size choice and he'll see that you get your shirt!
Newsletter! Joy is looking for articles for the newsletter. If you have anything to share, please email her or give her a call. She plans to publish the next one around Thanksgiving! jrusonis@hotmail.com or 767-5697
Pictures! Please share your photos and video with us! You can email them to me, or put them on a disk and send them into Mr. Eyster - just be sure to mark them, band photos for the booster club. Thanks!
Trailer Crew! Thanks to Frank and his crew for their hard work. They'll continue as long as the team keeps winning and the band keeps playing. John Myers has agreed to head up the crew next year. Thanks John!
Concession Stand - We're all finished for the year! Thank you to LeAnna and Jeanne for another great year, and thank you everyone who helped on Wednesday and Friday nights, AND to the crews who went out and braved the crowds to sell in the stands!

Weekly Update
Hello everyone,
Friday night is our final regular-season game, and it’s Senior Night. Senior Night is where the senior band members, cheerleaders, and football players and their parents are recognized on the field. It’s hard to believe we’re already to this point in the year!
We will, no doubt, be heading to playoff games thanks to our stellar football team. We’ll keep everyone updated as to the schedule as it becomes available.
This will also be our last Friday night of concession for the season. Football boosters take concession during playoff season. If you can lend a hand tomorrow night so that senior parents can enjoy the last game and Senior Night, that would be great.
We will have car magnets for sale in concession tomorrow night for $5.00. If you bought one at the last home game and need to exchange it, please bring it with you.
BOOSTER MEETING:
There will be a booster club meeting on Monday, November 9th, at 7:00 p.m. in the band room at the high school. It’s time to begin thinking about next year’s officer and committee chair positions. We will have several openings and need folks to step-up to keep things running. Please contact me if any of the following interest you. You may also speak to the person who currently holds the position for more info. The following are some of the positions to be filled:
Officers
President
Vice-President
Treasurer (must have solid accounting experience/background for this position)
Assistant Secretary
Committee Chairs
Trailer Crew – this is vital to Marching Band!
Coupon Book Fundraiser
Email/Volunteer Coordinator
Other positions may open as the school year progresses.
CITRUS SALE:
The sale is underway! If you have any questions please contact Cheryl Zearfoss @792-7795, zearfoss@verizon.net for assistance.
CLOTHING FOR SALE:
We have three grey, embroidered hoodie sweatshirts for sale. They’re left from the clothing sale and are an adult medium. Please contact Tina if you’re interested.
Thanks for your support!

Weekly Update
Hello everyone,
What a busy weekend we had!
Thank you to Sherri Dennis for organizing the after parade pizza party for the marching band!
We provided a Chick-Fil-A meal for the band between the parade and Dover band show. We will undoubtedly be going to playoff games. When this happens, and the game is away, the booster club will arrange for a meal for the marching band, the trailer crew, and the directors. This is about 120 meals!
These meals are paid for by memberships, fundraising and concession sales. Please remember to do your part in keeping our organization solvent so that we may continue to support the bands!
Thank you to Linda Kahley for working on the concert uniforms for the past three weeks – she’s been going in each band day and measuring students for alterations. This is a BIG job and we’re very, very fortunate to have her and her crew of seamstresses! Thank you, Linda!
Finally, a HUGE thank you to Frank Hill and last weekend's Trailer Crew for working ALL DAY from the morning into the evening on Saturday. It was a long day for everyone, and then Frank and his crew had to get out and do it all again on Sunday. Thank you, Frank!
Hope to see everyone at the game Friday night!
SENIOR NIGHT:
Senior parents take note: A form was sent via postal mail for participation in Senior Night on Friday, November 6th. You cannot participate in Senior Night without the form being turned in by October 30th, and this is an event you don’t want to miss!
We also need a few more helpers in the concession stand that night so that our parents of seniors can have the evening off to enjoy the last home game and participate in senior night.
CITRUS SALE:
The sale is underway! If you have any questions please contact Cheryl Zearfoss @792-7795, zearfoss@verizon.net for assistance.
MAGNETS:
Magnets are in and they look great. Thanks to Beth Brickner for staying on top of this until we got the right product! Contact us if you want to purchase one – only $5.00! They’ll make great stocking stuffers, teacher gifts, etc.! We’ll be selling them at our final home game on November 6th, and at other band events as allowed.
PHOTOS:
If you have photos to share, please forward them to us and we’ll post them on the blog. We’re also still looking for photos for our photo boards at the High School Band Banquet in May.
And please, no more anonymous, snarky comments sent to the blog about how the photos are not that great. That’s just mean and uncalled for. If you (whoever you are) want better photos on the blog then send us some!

Halloween Parade - Pizza Party!
The kids enjoyed pizza after the parade this afternoon. A well-deserved treat after the full weekend of performances. Thanks to Sherri Dennis for organizing everything and the moms/dads who came out to help!
If anyone has pictures of the parade they'd like to share, please email them and I'll get them posted. Thanks!

Dover Band Show...
We saw several great bands on Saturday night at the Dover Band Show. Our band, despite being tired and wet from the game that afternoon put on another fabulous performance. Our Band Front looked great - one of the best of the evening!
A highlight of the evening was when the Steelton-Highspire Roller Pride band put down their instruments and danced to Michael Jackson's Thriller! Central's Panther Band's "The Final Frontier" show was another highlight and their Band Front was great. Dover wrapped up the evening with the music of Queen, and it was awesome to hear them all sing the last few lines of Bohemian Rhapsody.
All in all, a good evening of entertainment. I hope more people attend next year even if it's indoors - the kids deserve to have more of an audience and a better show of support. I'd say there were only a handful of West York spectators there, and not many more for the other bands.

Week of October 20th
Hello everyone,
Wow, what a great game on Saturday! The weather was less than pleasant, but it was great to see that we had WAY more fans on our side than Suburban did. And how great was it that when given the option to go or not to go that our band went?! They didn’t have their instruments, but they stood in the cold rain and sang and cheered and supported the team like nobody’s business! Way to go, band and Mr. Eyster! (On a side note, Suburban’s band was nowhere to be found!)
We have a big, busy weekend ahead!
The band boosters will provide a meal for the band between the Kennard Dale football game and the Dover Band Show on Saturday. The buses will bring the kids back to the high school where they will have a quick meal, freshen up, and then head off to Dover where we will perform around 6:45 or so.
There is a sign-up sheet in the band room for the after parade pizza party for marching band. Please remind your child to sign-up by October 22nd so we have a pretty good idea of how many are attending.
Please refer to the schedule for times of each event and arrival times for the kids.

Weekly Update
Hello everyone,
Lots of important information in this newsletter this week and on the blog – please take a moment to read through all of it.
I hope everyone enjoys their Friday night “off” and plans to come out on Saturday to the Suburban game. Better bundle up, though, because it’s going to be cold!
Don’t forget the marching band will be participating in the Manchester Halloween Parade on Sunday! Check your calendars for details.
SENIOR NIGHT:
Senior parents take note: A form was sent via postal mail for participation in Senior Night on Friday, November 6th. If you do not receive yours this week, please let Sherri Dennis or Tina know so that we can get one to you. You cannot participate in Senior Night without the form being turned in by October 30th, and this is an event you don’t want to miss!
We also need a few more helpers in the concession stand that night so that our parents of seniors can have the evening off to enjoy the last home game and participate in senior night.
CITRUS SALE:
Information was mailed home to Middle and High School band students. Elementary students will receive information from Ms. Astree.
NEWSLETTER:
You should be receiving a newsletter home from your child soon. Thank you to Joy Rusonsis for taking on this project for us! Also thank you to our copy elf! (You know who you are!)
MAGNETS:
We received our magnets last Friday only to discover (after we began selling them at the concession stand) that they were not printed on the correct magnet material. The company has assured us that will have the correct magnets by the end of this week. For those of you who ordered, I apologize for the delay. We will have them to you as soon as we receive them.
For those of you who purchased on Friday night, when the new ones are in please contact Tina or Beth Brickner to exchange for a new one. I believe we sold about 6 before we pulled them back.
PHOTOS:
If you have photos to share, please forward them to us and we’ll post them on the blog. We’re also still looking for photos for our photo boards at the High School Band Banquet in May.
CONCESSION STAND INFORMATION:
First of all, THANK YOU to everyone who worked last Friday Night. We had another busy concession night (good for us!) and were kept busy all evening. A special thanks to the crew who sold in the stands!
Due to some recent situations, we’ve decided to put a few things in writing regarding the concession stand. These will be posted here, on the blog, and in the concession stand. We only have one more home game to work this season, but these things will hold true next year as well. If you have any questions or concerns about any of the following, please contact LeAnna, Jeanne, or Tina. Thanks.
1. Please consume all food products in the back room or outside of the stand - not where food is being prepared or served. This is a safety policy for food service.
2. If you are not feeling well please do not serve food. We always need help but the safety of our kids, fans and food must come first.
3. Please wear gloves at all times when handling/serving food items. This is non-negotiable! (we provide the gloves)
4. When helping out on game night come directly into the stand. Do not go to the stands to place a blanket or to a window to purchase food. This helps us avoid any confusion on who is working and who is watching the game with the ticket takers. If you need to purchase food for your student we can do that inside the stand. If you are helping only at half-time /3rd quarter, but are coming when the game begins, you will need to purchase a ticket.
5. Everyone pays for their concession food. As a courtesy, when you work in the stand for three or more quarters you, as the worker, may have one item and one drink for half price the same as we offer the band students. Your band student has an opportunity for discounted prices at dinner. If there is food left over at the end of the night we will offer that to our workers for a discount.
6. Please remember to be respectful to all the people who come to the stand both adults and students. Even if they are being rude. If there is a problem ask Jeanne, LeAnna, or Tina for assistance.
7. While it’s helpful for us to monitor the comings and goings outside of the concession stand, especially the side/back, it’s not our responsibility to be the “stadium police”. It’s fine to ask students to move along, but if they give us a hard time or refuse then we need to get a school official or the on-duty police staff to assist. If students/adults are simply passing through the area, that is okay. Yes, we know it’s roped off, but someone may have a need to pass through that area.
Please also keep in mind that football uses the back of the concession storage area on game and there may be different people in from time to time. If you don’t know someone or feel that they’re suspicious, please get LeAnna, Nick, Jeanne, or Tina. Please do not confront them.
8. To avoid giving incorrect change (or being told you did) keep the bills out in open view of the customer until change is given and accepted.
9. When you need change or need to turn in bills, please see LeAnna, Jeanne, or Tina only.
Again, these guidelines will be placed in the concession stand and on the blog. Thanks for your cooperation.
CLOTHING FOR SALE:
We have three grey, embroidered hoodie sweatshirts for sale. They’re left from the clothing sale and are an adult medium. Please contact Tina if you’re interested.
